Great Trough CreekGeneral Description
Great Trough Creek cuts through Terrace Mountain and empties into Raystown Lake.
Stream fishing in Great Trough Creek provides anglers with opportunities to cast
for trout, smallmouth bass, rock bass, sucker and panfish. Shad fish netting
is becoming popular as these fish enter tributaries of Raystown Lake each spring
to spawn.
There is a whitewater stretch of Class I-III rapids suitable for paddlers
of medium experience. This section is not recommended for beginners without the
aid of a more experienced paddler.

Access
Put-in: follow the signs to Trough Creek State Park from PA Route 994 — about
10 miles north of the town of Saxton. Cross a recently restored wooden arch bridge
over Great Trough Creek. Take the first right after crossing the creek onto Trough
Creek Drive which quickly becomes a gravel road. After a couple of miles, take the
first right onto another gravel road (T-370); the put-in is ½ mile along
this road.
Takeout: Retrace your path to the wooden bridge, cross over the creek and take the
first right - this is still Trough Creek Drive. Follow this road past the campground
to the parking area near the dam and the "ice mine".
