Rising and falling as it traverses the Laurel Ridge between Ohiopyle State Park and Johnstown, the Laurel Highlands Trail winds more than 70 miles from tip to tip. This 24.2 mile overnighter begins at mile marker 45.8 and passes through Laurel Ridge State Park and State Game Lands 42. Along the way, hikers can enjoy scenic views across The Alleghenies region and dense stands of mountain laurel, which bloom in vibrant colors throughout May and June. Shelter areas on the trail provide overnight camping options, water and primitive restroom facilities. Once at the top of the Conemaugh Gorge near the end of the route, the trail drops nearly 1,500 feet in just four miles, offering scenic views with nearly every step.
